The National Skill Development Corporation was launched by the Government of India in 2009 to help promote skill development in India. Additionally, the said scheme is responsible for offering quality vocational training to the Indian youth by extending substantial funding to organisations and companies to open requisite training centres.
There are several programmes extended under NSDC, which, in turn, offer quality training to eligible individuals. To benefit from the same, an individual should find out the skill development courses offered under each programme and register for them accordingly. This would directly help them to develop their industry-oriented skills and would help to implement the same in practice.
What are the programmes offered under NSDC?
Here’s a list of programmes that are offered under NSDC to promote skill development in India. Such schemes have been initiated to train more than 40 crore youth by the year 2022.

Each of these programmes caters to the needs and requirements of the skilled-youth differently. For example, some tend to provide substantial funding to enrol into skill-enhancing certification courses, while others do so to help open a registered training centre.
Functions of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana
To elaborate, here’s how Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana functions –
- Acknowledges previous learning.
- Provides short-term training programmes.
- Provides placement opportunities to the youth.
- Develops special projects and monitors them continuously.
- Holds Kaushal and Rozgar Mela.
- Standardised the channel of communication and branding.
Based on these critical components and their functions, the PMKVY provides industry-relevant training to the Indian youth.
Benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana
The primary aim of the programme is to encourage individuals to avail industry-relevant training to enhance their scope of employment generation further.
To facilitate the same, there are around 187 training partners with over 2300 active organisations in India. Additionally, a monetary reward of Rs.8000 is forwarded to the eligible individuals during the training period.
Moreover, the scheme offers 33 industry-oriented skill development courses, some of them are as follows –
- Beauty and wellness.
- Furniture and fittings.
- Gem and jewellery.
- Infrastructure equipment.
- Tourism & Hospitality.
In case, individuals want to enhance their soft skills through these courses, they should apply for the course at the earliest. However, before proceeding, they must check the eligibility criteria set against the programme and its associated skill development courses.
For example, if an individual aspires to open a training center under the NSDC’s PMKVY, they would be required to meet a few basic qualifications including –
- Candidates must be graduates.
- Must possess experience of 3 years.
- Must be an SSC certified applicant.
